Fun facts about the Mercedes-AMG
There are a lot of surprises and lesser known facts about Mercedes-Benz and its vehicles. Today we will be focusing on the Mercedes-AMG. Keep reading to learn more.
What AMG stands for
AMG comes from the last names of its founding fathers Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. The G is from Aufrecht’s birthplace, Großaspach.
“Red Pig” racing car
Perhaps the most noteworthy, the first vehicle associated with AMG started as a four-door sedan. This car was known as the “Red Pig” racing car. The vehicle had a 6.8-liter engine which produced 428 horsepower and 448 pound-feet of torque. It had a heavy frame but won second place which helped it secure its place in motorsport success.
The Black Series
In the AMG lineup, there have only been five special models that have sported the distinctive AMG Black Series badging. This series is the AMG’s most extroverted, track-focused and exclusive, limited production models. The models include the CLK 63 Black Series, the C 63 Black Series, the SL 65 Black Series, the SLS Black Series and the SLK 55 Black Series. This year there will be a new addition to the family with the GT Black Series.
The Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar
Mercedes-Benz is bringing one of the most efficient, fully-fledged hybrid technologies to the table. The Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar is capable of producing more than 1,000 horsepower with top reaching speed beyond 217 mph.
